Wind Chill Advisory in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am CST Friday…
The National Weather Service in La Crosse has issued a Wind Chill Advisory… which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am CST Friday.
* Wind chill values of minus 20 to minus 35 can be expected after midnight.
* Wind chills this low can cause frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors… dress appropriately.
Due to the extreme cold forecasted for the area, the City of Richland Center wants residents aware that the Richland Hospital will be available as a warming station. If you have any questions you can contact Mayor Corcoran at 604-0615.
With the National Weather Service predicting dangerously cold wind chills across Richland County, health officials are issuing a special public health advisory to prevent cold-related illness and death.
If outdoor activity is essential, everyone must be especially careful and mindful of the risks posed by severe cold.
With low temperatures and even moderate wind, common outdoor activities can quickly become life threatening, even for those appropriately dressed for the outdoors. Exposed flesh such as the nose and ears can freeze within 30 seconds at minus -30 degrees wind chill.
Richland Center, WI: An Arctic cold front is expected to plunge into the area Saturday night into Sunday bringing a chance of snow, but more importantly, the coldest air of the season (in fact, potentially the coldest air since early February of 1996). Wind chills late Sunday night through Tuesday morning could be as cold as 40 below to 50 below zero!

On the road – If you have to travel make sure you have a winter emergency kit in your vehicle. Items to include in the kit are candles and matches, a flashlight, pocket knife, snacks, a cell phone adapter, a blanket, and extra clothing.
