Flash Flood Causes Local Road Closures
Richland County, WI: During the overnight hours, several northern townships received approximately 7in of rain, with another 1 ½ to 2in received during the morning hours. Due to this rainfall, many villages and townships are experiencing flash flooding.
This flash flooding in Richland County has caused some roads in the northern and central parts of the county to be closed. As of 1:00pm this afternoon, the following roads were still closed: State Highway 80 near Rockbridge and north of County Highway C, AA near Industrial Drive, D at Rockbridge, DD near Woodstock, C near Yuba, Q east of Boaz, E outside of Boaz, F outside of Excelsior, and S near the Crawford County line. The following townships have also reported road closures: Bloom, Dayton, Eagle, Forest, Henrietta. Marshall, Richwood, Rockbridge, Sylvan, Westford, and Willow.
Please use caution when traveling in areas of the County with high water as numerous township and county roads were impacted by the flash flood event early this morning. Many roads may still have high water crossing over them or may be covered with mud and flood debris creating hazardous travel conditions.
Remember “Turn around, don’t drown”! When water covers a roadway, there is no way to know the condition of the road to ensure it has not washed out. Water over roadways can also cause damage to a vehicle and/or sweep it away in the flowing water.
Residents living along the Kickapoo or Pine rivers are urged to take precautions as flood waters continue to move south.
Damage assessments are ongoing. Emergency Management encourages individuals impacted by this flood event to photograph and document any damage to property in the case that financial assistance may be made available.
We encourage the public to monitor their favorite media outlets to stay informed of changing road and weather conditions.
