Dangerous Winter Storm
A major winter storm will move into the region tonight 12/19/12, with blizzard conditions expected from central Iowa into southern Wisconsin. For those traveling, this could be a life-threatening storm. Snow will move in from the southwest later today and become heavy tonight. The heaviest snow will fall from central Iowa into southern Wisconsin with 10 to 18 inches expected. Lesser amounts will fall to the northwest, but impacts may be just as bad with whiteout conditions possible. Winds will increase Thursday morning that could lead to the blizzard conditions and create large snow drifts along with blowing snow. Winds will turn to the north and northwest by Thursday morning with gusts up to 40 mph. Travel should be avoided during the storm as many roads will become impassable.
